Solidarity-based enterprises

The aim is to achieve self-reliance through income generating activities which not only provide opportunities for employment but also serve as versatile vocational training centres (workshops in various trades) where young people are given education as well as practical training:

  • Development of local markets: carpentry, poultry production, construction, bakeries and cake shops, jewellery, leather work, locksmiths.

  • Agricultural enterprises: quinoa plantations; associations of quinoa, sesame and amaranth growers (these crops are among the 10 most nutritious plants on earth).

  • Development of international markets: regular export of containers of quinoa and its by-products as well as handicrafts to Europe.

  • Solidarity-based agro-tourism on the banks of Lake Titicaca in collaboration with a network of agricultural production units (greenhouses, walipinas, traditional crop growing, fish breeding module in preparation), bakery, quinoa ‘popcorn’ and handicraft shop, combined with leadership and/or management training.

New solidarity-based enterprises

  • The majority of these are managed by young leaders who are highly motivated as they have personally experienced the worst possible working conditions, mistreatment and, often, sexual abuse…

  • Organizational structures are as horizontal as possible, with decisions taken collegially. Young people are gradually trained in administration and take part in stock management and contacts with suppliers.

  • At monthly meetings with young leaders, experienced accountants and auditors share their know-how and provide guidance in leadership and social management.

Kamagra
